SkinPen Mechanical Micro-Needling Vs Manual Derma Rollering
The difference between manual dermal rollers and the Mechanical SkinPen device is the more micro-punctures a device is able to achieve, the more dramatic the results will be.
With the majority of dermal rollers, the maximum achievable number of holes is somewhere between 300 and 400 holes per second. SkinPen Precision has its 14-tip needle head and the Smart Advantage motor that produces 7000 revolutions per minute, producing 98,000 channels per minute.
Dermal rollers are simply outdated consisting of a rolling pin covered with tiny needles. During a Derma roller treatment, the roller is rolled across the skin, leaving behind a trail of microscopic punctures. While the needle roller is effective, the rolling action causes the needles to enter AND exit the skin at an angle, creating lateral epidermal tears, this makes the treatment much more uncomfortable, and often causes a longer downtime for the patient.
SkinPen needles enter the skin at 90 degree and can treat certain hard to reach areas, such as those around the eyes, nose and mouth, changing the depth of the needle as most suitable.
What skin conditions does the SkinPen treat:
Uneven skin tones
Sun damage on face or hands
How long does it last?
Skins will look healthier and visibly more radiant shortly after the treatment, this will however improve more over time. It takes time for the skin to naturally repair and stimulate new collagen production. Results will continue to improve in the weeks following the treatment, optimum results normally take between 3-4 months after your final course of treatments.
Does it hurt
A topical anaesthetic will be applied to the skin 30 minutes prior to the treatment to minimise any discomfort. A patch test for the topical anaesthetic will be performed 24-48 hours prior to treatment
How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions is dependent on your skins conditions and concerns being targeted. The number of sessions vary from 3-6 every 6 weeks. Results are not permanent as the skin will still be affected by the natural ageing process, lifestyle and environmental influences- but most results would last around 12-18 months. Scar correction can take longer. You can prolong your results by having regular top up sessions and follow a good professional regime.
What will my skin look like after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment you skin may appear flushed, red and may feel slightly warm. Do not worry this will soon subside. You will not experience any bleeding as a result of this treatment.
This normally resolves quickly, within 24 hours, but for some people it may persist for between 2-4 days. Cool compresses may be applied to cool the skin.
If you experience any other side effects, or the swelling and irritation which lasts longer than 7 days, contact your practitioner immediately.
REJUVENATE TIRED AND DULL SKIN
How does the treatment feel
The SkinPen procedure is minimally invasive and non-surgical.
The treatment creates minimal discomfort which is tolerable to many people, we do however apply topical anaesthetic cream which is applied for 30 min prior to the treatment.
Once your skin has been numbed, SkinPen will be moved over the skin, the pen is held in an upright position so the micro-needles penetrate the skin smoothly.
